checking for hardware

I've been working on an HP 300 computer installed with HP Vista software. For some reason, it won't recognize Data Acquisition Hardware that is plugged in. The select code for it is 11 and the hardware will have all its lights blinking, indicating that the computer is talking to the hardware. However, UNIX will show nothing at select code 11. I tried typing "lsdev" for a list of the internal devices but it doesn't list the select codes. Is there some other command I can try that might list the hardware plugged into the computer (including the select codes)?

Thanks very much.

What OS are you running? What is an HP 300? HP's unix systems are HP 9000/xxxx where xxxx is some model.

But with modern versions of HP-UX, lsdev basicly lists drivers. When I run lsdev, the only numbers that appear are major numbers.

I suspect that you are running a very old version of hp-ux on a very old 9000/300. But even in those days, lsdev listed drivers. Post your lsdev output.

My best guess is that you are missing a driver. What is the special file that you would use to talk with this device? Does it exist?
