Bug Information Security Certification ??

Hi All

I am not sure this is the right place to ask this question.

I am from India ( Mumbai ) .I am in IT industry ( as Application developer / System support ) for nearly 4 years i dont have any direct security related work experience but i did work on cryptography & Access control in 2 of my projects for around year. I work on Unix / Shell scripting / Perl Scripting. I want to do a certification in Information security , i came across ISC2.org where i asked them whether i am eligible for the (SSCP) exam but got no response. i also searched for security related forums but i cant seem to find any.

So guys please guide me on how to go about this ? which are the good organizations who offer certification in security which is know in international market. Looking forward to your replies.

P.S : Mods please move the thread to appropriate area if this is not the right place

Most people that we hire for such responsibilities have a UNIX engineer certification or something of that sort. This probably gives you the most mileage and gives you a head start. In other words, for us past experience weighs heavier than course certifications.

I agree.

Certifications are worth very little. Experience is worth a lot.

Certifications are a "business racket" to take your money and give you a piece of paper.

PS: I know many CISSPs who I would never hire to work on a security project.

I agree with Neo, paper means little - though a lot of jobs seem to require it. I recently too a C|EH (Certified Ethical Hacker) class and challenged the class. It was a lot of fun, but that's why I took it. BTW, is the Samantha post a bot?

Hello Zedex & community!!

At least, on my work, it's well received that you may have a CompTia Security+ certification, or any ITIL framework present in your CV.

Those are not very hard to get, and gives you some 'level' against others who aren't certified.

Of course that many years of experience and a few manager recommendations will talk more than a few extra lines Smilie

Good luck on that!
