connect optical cable to HBA

Hi guys,
I have not connected optical cable to the Dual port HBA before. My integrator used to do that for me all the time. Can someone explain to me how can I physically connect optical cable to the HBA port in P570.
The optical cable has two connectors and right now the HBA port has just a single black (rod like) thing, do I need to unplug that (black cap) to get the 2 ports out of it? I feel really embarassed to ask this question but i guess "you learn as u go"

thanks in advance.

Unused adapter ports should have a wrap plug fitted.
Just pull out the wrap plug and plug in the fibre.
Look at another adapter with a fibre in it if you are unsure what it should look like.

unplug the protection

plug in the cable on the san/lan switch, how doesn't matter

if the cable doesn't fit, you need an SFP, a short adapter for the switch

go to the machine end, concentrate and look at the front of the fibre cable, you'll now see a red light in one connector (port must be enabled on the switch)

look at the hba on the p570, you'll see a red light too

plug the and of the cable with no light in the port with the light, and vice versa

cg! you have connected your first fiber cable Smilie

I'm sure it depends on the distributor, but in our case some cables of the same delivery are alway assembled different, so just plugging them in will not work

I'm sure you should NOT be looking into fibre cables or ports, you stand a good chance of burning your retina if you look directly into them.

that's true for single mode hbas, I've never seen a single mode hba on a P4/P5/P6 System

there you use multimode hbas, it's no problem to look at/into them, unless you don't stick it in your eye

to be on the safe side you can ask your san/network admin which one you use, but as I wrote, I've just seen them on Z-Series

I check the light on the fiber cables on a regular basis. We use patch panels to connect via the switch and server and have to keep track of the cable polarity. Looking at the light is really the only way to know if you need to swap the cables in the LC or SC connector on the end.
