hosts.allow on aix 5.3

Hi All,

I need to allow "sftp on ssh" to ALL on the server. How do I modify hosts.allow to accept all incoming sftp?

Thanks for any comment you may add.

I believe, unless the format has changed, that SFTP does not work the same way as FTP and the hosts.allow file is ignored by the former. In fact none of the control files which work for FTP work for SFTP.

It is a few years since I evaluated SFTP so the format may have changed but certainly when I reserched it what I have stated above was true.

Sorry to be of no help but I might have saved you a lot of pain!

Johnf is quite correct.

sftp is NOT another sort of ftp but in fact is a frontend to "scp", made to mimick a ftp-like interface. Read the ssh/scp-documentation and have a look at the "/etc/ssh/ssh_config" file.

I hope this helps.

Can you give me some example entry for the hosts.allow? Say I want all ssh on it.

Thanks.

The hosts.allow file will not have any effect on SSH. This is controlled by the key file in the .ssh directory of the user and is kept in the known_hosts file. All other controls for SSH are in the /etc/ssh directory. All hosts.allow will control is FTP!
