We have a server that need to have 50 or so entries added to the /etc/hosts file. All the entries will be on the same subnet so i wanted to know if i can add the range to the /etc/hosts file and if so how.

/etc/hosts is a file which lists hostnames associated with IP-adresses. Its kind of a "telephone directory for IP adresses". I don't understand how adding a "range" would further the function of this list. It would be like adding a "range" of telephone numbers to the telephone directory: if there are no names associated with these the information gain would be zilch.

Or am i completely misunderstanding you?

We have a server that users post information via NFS. In order for the to get access their computer has to be in the etc/hosts file. what we want to do is allow the subnet so we don't have to add each PC as they need to post.

Are you referring to the routing table?

What we want is to allow user to nfs mount to the server from their Windows PC's without having to add the PC to the AIX /etc/hosts file or create a user on the AIX box. The file system is exported as a NFS mount but the users PC must be in the hosts file for them to access the mount. In other words we want to allow anonymous NFS for users on one subnet.
