Hello - I have a Solaris machine, which I would like to configure as NIS master. When I run the command /usr/sbin/ypinit -m, I see below output. I am enclosing them in tags.

I have a Solaris client here needs to bind to NIS server in another subnet. Following is the configuration i made on the client,
1) edit /etc/inet/hosts to add an entry of the NIS server -- nserver01
2) execute `domainname` to set local NIS domain to the domain of the NIS server.... (1 Reply)

I am running NIS on Solaris 8 and I keep getting these errors:
rpc.nisd_resolv: nres_gethostbyaddr: tham.company.com != xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
These happen to others not just one account. And these are over the VPN that we have.

We have a RedHat 8.0 NIS master, with a RedHat 8.0 NIS Slave.
We also have a small number of SUSE 9.1 and SUSE 10 machines here for evaluation.
However, no matter what i do, the SUSE machines will not talk to the NIS Servers.

I just took over the admin role from someone and I wanna setup sendmail (just to send mail from the host) however, after I config all the resolv.conf, nssitch.conf, hosts file and when I try to send a mail out, after I punched ctl-D, it returned he following,

I have copied and verified all the NIS data over from Machine 'A' (Old server) to Machine 'B' (New server), however when I go to start the process of migrating the ‘new maps' back to Machine "A", I get the following error, any ideas?

After updating the NIS Map file in the Central copy of the NIS Master Server, i pushed the NIS maps to the client but during the push i gets this error on some of the system. NAME
mknetid - generate data for netid map
SYNOPSIS
/usr/lib/yp/mknetid [ -q ] [ -h hosts ] [ -p passwd ] [ -g group ] [ -d domain ] [ -n netid ]
/usr/lib/yp/mknetid --version
DESCRIPTION
mknetid generates the netid.byname NIS map from the contents of the group(5), passwd(5), hosts(5) and netid files. It checks for multiple
entrys of netids and warn for them or filters them out. It is only called by /var/yp/Makefile when rebuilding the NIS map.
OPTIONS
-q This flag turns on 'quiet' mode, don't print a warning message when finding an duplicate netid entry.
-h hosts
The -h flag can be used to specify the use of another hosts file than the default /etc/hosts.
-p passwd
The -p flag can be used to specify the use of another passwd file than the default /etc/passwd.
-g group
The -g flag can be used to specify the use of another group file than the default /etc/group.
-n netid
The -n flag can be used to specify the use of another netid file than the default /etc/netid.
-d domain
The mknetid command uses the system domainname by default. If it is not set or you whish to override it, you must use the -d parame-
ter.
--version
Prints the version number
