This is not build in I am afraid, i.e. there is no option switch to do this. You would have to do this by scripting it yourself. In case you need this with installp packages coming from sbdy else you could extract the packages contents and repackage it to a new bff file.

I am not sure from your questions whether you just want to install an installp package into a different directory or if you want to dig deeper into installp itself. If the later was true I may add another hint. Several years ago IBM tried to make creation of installp packages easier by adding mkinstallp to the os. However it seems that at the same time the information about installp packages was either removed to a large extent from the AIX Infocenter pages or hidden in the IBM html dungeon. Fortunately this information is still available with the AIX 4.3.3 documentation: Chapter 20. Packaging Software for Installation IMHO this is an indispensable piece of information about installp packages.

edit by bakunin: I am going to shamelessly copy this excellent link and include it in the pinned thread at the top of this forum. Many thanks for it. ;-)

To all the other posters here: if you have valuable resources/links/procedures/tips/tricks please do not hesitate to tell me. I will gladly include all suggestions turned in that way in the pinned thread at top to share the knowledge.

Thanks for the link. I will look more into mkinstallp and see if this helps resolve my problem.
