ftp to the other server

hi

files are not transferring from one server to other server..

using ftp i tried to transfer one dir from server1 to server2. but, i can't.

can some explain how to transfer or move a dir from server1 to server2.
i used get and put both commands. but, i failed.

are you ableto connect to that server??
if yes then there might be a problem with file permission or ownership..

yes, i am connecting to the other server.

i am the root user, i think i don't have any problem with the permissions.

do you know the complete command?.
please send me the in details...

mean ftp> get .......

complete procedure.

ftp <serverip>
enter username
enterpassword
ftp>dir (to list the files of remote server)
ftp>prompt
ftp>mput <filename1> <filename2>...... so on(to put files on remoteserver)
ftp>mget <filename> )to get files from remote server)
ftp >bye

You may end up having to tar up the directory you want to copy (tar -cf ./outputname.tar ./directorytobetransferred) and then FTP that tar file across and then untar it on the other server (tar -xf ./outputname.tar). I don't think that you can ftp a directory via the ftp command line... I may be wrong. When I try and FTP a directory, I get this:

somedirectory/: A file or directory in the path name does not exist.

now iam in server1... i ftp to server2... and present dir in server2 is tmp...

ftp> pwd
257 "/tmp" is current directory.

ftp> tar -cvf abc.tar /tmp/abc
?Invalid command

when i used this command above, got this error.

can you tell me how to do?

first create the tar file then try ti ftp that tar file...
