Hi All,

I have the following 2 questions:
I can't seem to find which versions of VIOserver are supported by IBM.
and
if there are rule for installation of tooling (e.g. monitoring agents) on a VIOserver.

Service for VIO 1.0.1.0 is still continued today (March 11th, 2008) and there is no date given for the withdrawal from marketing in the offering catalogue. So support *should* be available for every version. However, usually the first thing to happen when opening a PMR with IBM is that you are being asked to install the latest fixpack.

Secondly VIO is considered an appliance. Officially you must not install anything beside the VIO mksysb on the VIO. If you do not want to use the basic AIX OS utilities for monitoring like vmstat, sar and so on you might end up with some unsupported VIO server configuration. Furthermore you are likely to lose all your configuration changes after a VIO update. Having said that you might have a look at some semi-official information from ibm.com:

As for customisation, as far as I am aware, it is not supported, but it is possible...
