Disk tuning parameters

Disk tuning parameters
I swapped out 2 72 gb disk drives for 2 146 gb drives, both of which spin at 15k.

Are there any I/O parameters I should modify or can modify to get the most out of the new disks?

A bit more info about your environment (such as OS version, applications used, etc.) would have been somewhat helpful. There is no such thing as "tuning", there is only "tuning for a specific purpose" - this is a general truth and can be applied here alike.

Supposing you have the average-up-to-date system (5.1+) with an average application mix (whatever with some I/O and some processing power needed) and some average performance objectives (faster would be nice, but its ok) - supposing all this the answer to your question is: no.

Hard Disk parameters (caching/dma)

Linux uses hdparm to set these parameters, my question is: what tool uses BSD systems (FreeBSD/OpenBSD/NetBSD)? There is another thing which FreeBSD implements on their filesystems: softupdates.
