I have the problem on the setting as I want to set all users to have TMOUT=600 and I set the value in /etc/profile. But certain users I don't want to have the TMOUT limitation. How should I set it?

If the number of users which should not have the variable set is small compared to the number of users which should, I would place TMOUT=600 in /etc/profile and then explicitly unset TMOUT in $HOME/.profile for each user which shouldn't have the variable.

Correct, that is what I would like to do. But I would like to know how to unchecked the setting for others? Is TMOUT=0 means deactivation of TMOUT ? If I remove the TMOUT statement for those users who I don't want to set the TMOUT, system will still refer to /etc/profile.
