Illegal User Id and User name is not recognized
When logging on to AIX 5.2 machine using a regular user via telnet, an error display "Illegal user id" displayed on the screen although it goes to the $ shell. As a regular user I can type commands such as pwd, cd, uname and so on...however, when I do "whoami" it displayed "whoami: The user name is not recognized". Likewise, when I do "su - username". However, when logging ON as root or equivalent, it logs on just fine. I deleted the regular user and created new user but same error. Any hint is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Switching from root to normal user takes me to user's home dir

Whenever i switch from root to another user, by doing su - user, it takes me to home directory of user. This is very annoying as i want to be in same dir to run different commands as root sometimes and sometimes as normal user. How to fix this? (1 Reply)
