i use both mkcd and mkdvd for making bootable images of aix 5.3 servers i have.
They have dvd reader but no writer. I have the following questions/errors:
1. When the process of mkcd/mkdvd is running and i have
[CODE]61510 of 61510 files (100%) 0512-038 mksysb: Backup Completed Successfully.[/CODE
then i have the following errors:
Finally i have the "cd_images" but are they bootable?
What these errors mean and how can i fix these?
2. When i transfer the "cd_images" via ftp to a windows pc with cd/dvd recorder and add the .iso to the end of the images, i can't open and see the contents of mksysb_image. Is there a problem?
Thank you

Reason: Add CODE an ICODE tags.
I think in your case, some filesets are missing. try running the command lppchk to see if there is any fileset needed. I do not know whther they are optional driver filesets. anyway, please check below link https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/c...0-000014170042
I usually follow the below procedure, If I would like to create a bootable image (mksysb) of AIX OS. (i never received any errors)
1) generate mksysb using smitty mksysb or using command with appropriate options
2) It will create a mksysb (rootvvg) on to a file.
3) convert that mksysb image to bootable ISO image
4) then use mkcd command to make it CD/DVD bootable
5) you can copy this image to any virtual oprtical disk or any
just an example;
I hope this helps.

On the system concerned, we don't have enough free space to create the mksysb to file first, so would like to use the existing tape mksysb backup.
The DVD disk/s will then be used to boot a... (4 Replies)
