NIM Install Boot Code: 888 102 700 C20

I've got code: 888 102 700 C20 when starting a NIM install. (Tried the online search results and it hasn't worked)

The OS is AIX 7100-03-02. The lpp_source and spot were defined as such:
Code:
710tl03sp2lpp_res        resources       lpp_source
710tl03sp2spot_res      resources       spot

The 888 102 700 C20 appears when loading the kernel (the bootp and tftp transfer appears to complete fine):
Code:
# lsnim -l vm02
emglab02:
   class          = machines
   type           = standalone
   connect        = nimsh
   platform       = chrp
   netboot_kernel = 64
   if1            = network1 vm02 0
   net_settings1  = auto full
   cable_type1    = tp
   Cstate = BOS installation has been enabled
   prev_state     = ready for a NIM operation
   Mstate         = not running
   boot           = boot
   lpp_source     = 710tl03sp1lpp_res
   nim_script     = nim_script
   spot           = 710tl03sp1spot_res
   cpuid          = 000CDF4ED600
   control        = master
#

How can I run stuff in debug mode or access the kernel messages during initial network NIM boot to get more information on the error? How can I get more information as to what's wrong or what is happening here?

The 7100-03-02 lpp was defined based on AIX 7100-03-00 DVD image then the copied lpp_res was updated using the fixpack bff's (to 7100-03-02). That process completed without an issue and checks on the spot/lpp were fine.

Cheers,
DH

I would first consider if the hardware & firmware version supports AIX 7. You can get the hardware boot codes from a search on the IBM site using this tool:-

Search for "three digit display AIX". The meaning of these codes is more or less fixed over all sorts of hardware. "888" means "system dump", "102" is a system halt. "700 c20" is the reason for this happening, in this case a program interrupt (700) where the kernel debugger exited without finishing the dump (c20).

Here is one site of many describing three-digit-codes in general and this one in specific.

I hope this helps.

Yes I saw that link and went over it as well as others so have an idea what the code means. When starting the NIM network install with debug mode, I get this:

AIX Version 7.1
Starting NODE#000 physical CPU#001 as logical CPU#001... done.
Illegal Trap Instruction Interrupt in Kernel
.kexitx+000430 tweqi r0,0 r0=0

Earlier I already had installed AIX 7.1 on the hardware and it was working and still is working fine. But new installs fail now. I did do the installs through NIM earlier as well but with a lower 7.1 TL and SP level. Tried to use a TL02 SP3 level with 7.1 and it produced the same code. So thinking the way the NIM was redone could be the issue but feel I'm missing bits and pieces of information off the NIM that could move this further for me. Like I said, I upgraded the 7100-03-00 DVD image to 03-02 from the fixpacks so not sure if things got mixed up in that somehow. How can I check for that? Or perhaps there's something messed up with the HMC profile that I can check for vm02 as it's virtualized through a VIO?

Cheers,
Devyn

Its is just gut feeling, but maybe you need to update some microcodes to support new OS versions?

Do installs of the old TLs/SPs still work or do they produce the problem too?

I hope this helps.
