EMCP_MOND in AIX 6.1

EMCP_MOND is utilizing high CPU in one of the AIX server. The EMCP configuration file is same as like the other servers. But only in this server its is utilizing almost 60% of CPU. Any idea ?

Several. And because i know nothing about your system or your setup they range from obvious to outlandish (and probably outright silly). You will have to give more input before you can expect refined output.

Are you using physical adapters in this machine or vdevs from a VIOS or NPIV?

Are you using a storage virtualization engine (a Vplex for instance)?

What are the versions of your OS and the powerpath software you use?

I hope this helps.

Hi,

we saw the same problem in our environment. We stopped the process and removed it from the inittab (entry: rcemcp_mond). We found this same problem on a few websites (don't know which one anymore) where above "solution" was mentioned. This process is for monitoring purposes, and we use different kind of monitoring for EMC storage.

Regards,

Vincent

Has been generated emcgrab and provided the datas to the SAN team and waiting for their input . By the way this is AIX 6.1 box and we having EMC symmetrix.

Thanks for your input guys.

But still, the basic question is: 60% of what? entitlement?

The real question is how much physical processor is it using (1.0, or 0.05). AIX will say 60% (e.g., user% plus sys%) for both - but it would mean 0.6 CPU, or 0.03 CPU, physically.

Which processor - SMT2/SMT4 - etc., etc..
