IBM What is the Purpose of /dev/ipldevice?

Hi,

Anyone, please explain the purpose of /dev/ipldevice in AIX .. it would be a problem if there is no /dev/ipldevice while booting.

Regards,

Yes, the /dev/ipldevice is important. It stands for "Initial Program Loader". If it is lost, use
Code:
cd /dev
mknod ipldevice c
chmod 600 ipldevice
chown root:system

to recreate it.
It points to your boot partition hd5; when it's gone, bosboot and/or savebase will most probably fail.
