4MM Tape Drive

Hello all,
I have just installed an HP dat72 external tape drive to an IBM 275 Intellistation (AIX 5L). It was installed as an Other SCSI Tape Drive (rmt1). I am using the Web Based System Manager at this point to do an initial backup
of a journaled file system. I am getting an error and am unable to determine why. The error is, Can't Open /dev/rmt1 I/O error. Can anyone give some advice?

Thank you,
Joe

Bug Fixed the problem.

In case any of you are interested, I solved my own problem. I have only had this position for 6 months and came into an already setup environment, at my company. What I found, is there was a Sysback software loaded that was a demo version. The demo license had expired, but I was not trying to use the software. Apparently, the Sysback software became the default, so whatever backup command I gave, it was launching the Sysback software and I did not realize it. I removed the Sysback software and was finally able to use the general backup function from AIX.

Hope this is useful to someone in the future.

Joe
