Problem in Emailing all .sh_history entries
Hi,

I can't get all the enties of AIX .sh_history in email. only first entry of the history is emailed after executing the below code.

Code:
mail -s "History `date +%d-%m-%Y`" myemail@xyz.com <$HOME/.sh_history

Can anyone help?

The .sh_history file is a binary file; not a text file. If you really need to email a .sh_history file you'll need to convert it to a text file before mailing it and then convert it back on the receiving end. Look at the uuencode and uudecode utilities' man pages for one way to perform these operations.

I haven't looked at .should_history in a long time. It was text on AIX but might be binary now.
Have you tried using
$ history | mail ...
# 4

In fact the history file of the ksh is mostly text but with control characters in it, so Don Craguns description of "binary" is true in a strict sense. These control characters might explain why one only sees the first entry in the mail. On the other hand, using the history command to decode it seems like a sound idea.
