AIX

I have a power5 that I would like to update and bring everything forward.

I am wondering about trouble-free upgrades. Is it better to go 5.3 -> 7 or 5.3 ->6 ->7?

The power5 box is behind and hopefully can learn from experiences here.

Hi you can update it directly to AIX 5.3 TL 12 Sp6- Just download full service pack with Technology level

But Please Remember that Aix 5.3 will be not supported after Apr 30 2011 that is who i would suggest direct upgrade to AIX 6.1

no you can go directly to TL7 without middle updates

Is there any special reason you do not want to update system directly to TL 12 ?

No, I would prefer to take it as it sits on AIX 5.3 directly to AIX 7, (i.e. not an interim TL) if that is something that works, if it a simple process. This is not a full time job.

you can upgrade from any AIX 5.3 or 6.1 Level to AIX 7.1
Make sure your firmware is on the latest level and that you have enough space in rootvg - AIX 7.1 is a lot bigger than 5.3. Please make sure as well that before you are upgrading, you reset all tunables to the defaults - so AIX can during the upgrade implement the new ones and doesnt go wrong there - I have seen very funny effects when this hasn't been done.
