AIX 4.3.3 boot error

AIX 4.3.3 boot error
We just got a machine with pre installed AIX 4.3.3.
It's and oldish RS/6000 F80.

When I power it on, the boot sequence advances finely, until it says
Welcome to AIX, closing stdin and stdout, or something like that.

From that point on the diagnostic display keeps counting the usual way for a while then it stops, and displays 0518

And the system hangs. Or something like that.

I have a serial console attached (port 1), 2 internal SCSI disks, one PCI Etheret card, an Advanced SSA RAID Adapter... I think that's all.

I found no reference of this error code in the service manual.

Any ideas?

518 means "Remote mount of the root (/) and /usr file systems failed during network boot".

Don't you try to boot it from network? Have you checked SMS settings?

Hi,

this 518 error could also occur if rootvg is not available. That might be caused by broken disk. Try to start server to maintenance mode (with AIX installation CD) and try to access to rootvg.

I did that. No I try to boot it from disk.

Part of my problem is I don't have an install kit...
The people who sold the machine forgot to ship the CDs.

AIX does not boot after power on

We have a RS6000, model B50, type 7046, where I installed AIX 4.3.3 But, if the power goes off, the operating system does not restart, and I have to go there and push the button to start AIX again.
