Why can't you get the processor fixed?

What do you mean by different machine types -- the test machine is Power 4?

If you really have to move it I suggest restoring a mksysb then restore the data. Don't mess with physically moving disks and adapters.

Hi,

yes you can if you absolutely have to. We have done this a few times without any major problems - moving from 550 to 570 and back was working relatively flawless.
If you have the same kind of hardware (the destination machine obviously has to support your type of adapters, this is not necessarily the case if you have very different types of hardware. Depending on the type of machines you have, you might have to take the disks out of their cages in the old box as the cages from a p550 do not suit into a 595 for example. But since AIX is running configmanager anyways during startup, this will update your hardware configuration. The only thing you might have to fix manually are things like etherchannel as - depending on the amount of used slots in the new box, the adapter ports might have changed - same with IP adresses - you may be using different IP ranges ...

Hope this helps,
kind regards

Be careful!
I administered a system with application license, which was generated based on the ID number of the hardware.
