Pb Etherchannel/deconnexion port reseau

Hello,

On a partition with AIX 5300-11-01-0944.
1 etherchannel ent9 with aggregation ent3/ent7.

Code:
# lsdev |grep ent
...
ent3 Available 07-01 4-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter (14106803)
...
ent7 Available 0A-01 4-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter (14106803)
...
ent9 Available EtherChannel / IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation

When I physically disconnect the cable from ent3 and that I reconnect it, it does not go up. The led with the back of the chart remain extinct.
With the restarting of the partition all is OK.
Below some infos on the state of the etherchannel and the errpt.

After deconnection:
Code:
# errpt |pg
EC0BCCD4 0331011510 T H ent3 ETHERNET DOWN

# entstat -d ent9
ETHERNET STATISTICS (ent3) :
....
Link Status: UNKNOWN
Media Speed Selected: 1000 Mbps Full Duplex
Media Speed Running: Unknown

# errpt |pg
F3931284 0331011610 I H ent3 ETHERNET NETWORK RECOVERY MODE
EC0BCCD4 0331011510 T H ent3 ETHERNET DOWN

# entstat -d ent9
ETHERNET STATISTICS (ent3) :
....
Link Status: Up
Media Speed Selected: 1000 Mbps Full Duplex
Media Speed Running: 1000 Mbps Full Duplex

Have you an idea ?
Thanks.

Are the "lossless_failover" and "auto_recovery" attributes for your etherchannel set similar to those below? I have done the "pull-the-plug-out-and-see-if-it-still-works-test" before and I have had good results with etherchannels. Even removing one cable, waiting a few seconds, reinserting it, waiting a few seconds, then removing the second cable didn't cause the box to lose its network connection. I did see errors in the errpt but it still worked. I am also running 6.1 so that may make a difference.

Code:
host:/:$ lsattr -El ent2 | grep noloss_failover
noloss_failover yes Enable lossless failover after ping failure True
host:/:$ lsattr -El ent2 | egrep "noloss_failover|auto_recovery"
auto_recovery yes Enable automatic recovery after failover True
noloss_failover yes Enable lossless failover after ping failure True
host:/:$

Hi,

have you setup a primary and a backup adapter - or two primary adapters (link aggregation). Have you put in an 'ip to ping' and are you using different switches in the same subnet or a single switch?

Was your system always AIX 5.3 or was it initially setup in an earlier AIX version ?

Check if your adapters both have link polling enabled to detect link failure. Some adapters cannot automatically detect their link status and need to have link polling enabled - but it is disabled by default because it decreases performance.
Before creating the EtherChannel, use the following command on every adapter to be included in the channel:

Code:
chdev -l entX -a poll_link=yes

It might be as well helpful for us to see your settings ?

Kind regards
Nicki
