Need help with KSH script.

Is there anyway to utilize the escape key in a KSH script? I have a script that asks for a series of prompts, I want the user to be able to hit the escape key to break out of the prompt (read command).

Someone please let me know if this is possible.

Tough question to answer, since it all hinges on the terminal type, platform, shell, etc, involved. Why not wrap it all up in a case..esac listing, and allow for a specific value to allow for quitting the interface? For example: q = Quit

I'm trying to mimic another application that we have.

in that case you'd need to trap the keystroke...then allow for the break in the interface.

Try to identify what the other app is doing, and emulate it in your script, but it'd still depend on the terminal type, etc, so you may not be able to fully adopt a binary's pattern. Otherwise, approach it from either case..esac or case..esac and getopts and be sure to account for a default on each of the prompted values.

Can someone help me with an example?

Let's say I need to prompt to enter a user name. What I'm trying to do if the user hits escape that it will break out of the user prompt and back to a main menu.

if you can find what string is for the <Esc> key (it depends on what terminal emulation you use), then use

stty intr "<that string>" in user profile.

We have <ctrl>+C set up for that purpose. In user's profile, we put:

stty intr "^C"

the terminal type we are using is at386.
