Oh! I'd never do that!
They actually asked us (my dept) if we had recommendations in the matter, while they go along with their own research.

It so happens that the new guy to AIX was happy to look into something strange Smilie

Coming back to the memory issue, there's a late update to be made. I few hours ago I found a important piece of information which I should have assured from the begging...

The oracle instance in this box is inactive Smilie

Darn... There goes my theory of how Oracle's recommendations would save the world....

Hi,

most of the suggested tunables are recommended by IBM for any system running AIX 5.3 later TL5 - no matter if you have Oracle (or Sybase) installed or not. The only thing you probably should not tune is the maxpage and dynamic buffer part.
BTW - your own document on Page 12 explains very well why to tune that way ... but to cut it short - you allow your system to page and it should not. You don't allow your system to use its memory and it should. If you run Websphere, Oracle, SAP or any other application doesnt change any of this.

If you would let us know what kind of application is really running on your box, we might be even more helpful (assuming its a commercial and no homegrown) Smilie

Kind regards
zxmaus
