VIO SAN STORAGE LPAR ( Dynamically increasing size )

Hi,

Is there a way to dynamically increase the size of virtual disk on the LPAR. The virtual disk is coming from my VIO Server. From my SAN I have allocated a disk to VIO Server and from VIO Server to my LPAR....If I increase the space of the logical SAN DISK (DS 4700 using IBM TotalStorage Software) How can I get it updated on the LPAR without shutting down the LPAR or chvg -g in the VIO ?

any way to do it dynamically (without varyoffvg ?)

thanks

I found this

Dynamically increasing virtual disk size

If your IBM® System p® AIX® hosts use AIX 5.2 or a later AIX operating system version, the SAN Volume Controller supports the ability to dynamically increase virtual disk (VDisk) size.

The chvg command options provide the ability to grow the size of a physical volume that the Logical Volume Manager (LVM) uses, without interruptions to the use or availability of the system. Refer to the AIX publication System Management Guide: Operating System and Devices for more information.

Does this mean, I need to have SVC ?

On IBM site I got this

Hi,

it might even depend on the storage.
Recently tested scenario of increasing LUN on non rootvg with DS8k with SDDPCM multipath and after chvg -g it worked nice.
But with DS4k (MPIO) it required a reboot of an lpar, after that it was increased, no way without it ... it might even even on the firmware of the storage ...
