I think it's impossible to administrate ux systems over a period of time without automatically learning scripting basics, and with this basics and a little internet research everyone is able to write powerful shell scripts, I'm sure this includes you too Smilie

Dear Arm,
I agree with funksen - you do not have to be a mega scripter to administer - especially AIX - systems - we have smitty !!! - but you should understand enough about scripting to modify some very useful scripts for your needs.
I am myself AIX SA since about 4 years in a large company - and I hate scripting ! But sometimes you cannot get around.
Anyway - if you're working in the projects area mainly building AIX systems, you should be able to survive with just basic shell scripting skills Smilie
Take care

It also depends on the team you are working in. Scripting will only be a small proportion of the total system administration work, so if other people do that part you will be able to do other useful work instead e.g. hardware, user accounts, backups etc.
