Go to the hotswap menu and see if it is listed.
What system, device, controller...AIX release and TL / SP do you have?
Can the system run without the device? e.g. If it is a non mirrored rootvg disk then no way can you hot swap it!

Thanks for u reply... i have 10 devices(PV's) in my server (AIX 5.3).Is there any command to know how many devices are hot swapable.

Basically all the disks are hot swapable either it will be local disk or external disk.

But you need to double check whether the disk is a part of VG.
If it is so then you you have to reduce it from VG and you can remove the disk away.

Incase of external disk the storage configuration will take care.
