crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42, 5 Jan 18 21:57 rmt1.7
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42, 64 Jan 18 21:57 rmt1.null
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42, 2 Jan 18 21:57 rmt1.smc
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,256 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,257 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.1
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,265 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.10
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,260 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.2

crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,257 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.5
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,260 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.6
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,296 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.60
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,261 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.7
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,320 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.null
crw-rw-rwT 1 root system 42,258 Jan 18 21:57 rmt2.smc

What is the difference between rmt2.1 and rmt2.4 ?
When I can use the first one or the another one?

My question is because my hypertape provider told me that there is a question about the rewind of the tape by the OS.

The tape library make all the process load and unload the tape, make the backup but doesnt make the rewind.

Thatīs why I ask about the different devices found in the devices directory.

I hope you get the idea about this.

Thanks everyone for your comments and tips.

the second digit has a special meaning, see

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...xfiles/rmt.htm

2.1: rewind on close: no
2.4: rewind on close: yes
