how do i know whether my ibm aix is system i or system p ?

Check the model type you get from a "uname -M" and google for it.

This is a Model 520, so it is a System P.

System p means Power Processor (and most likely AIX as OS) System i means Intel processor (and definitely no AIX as OS). AIX won't run on System i.

Sorry bakunin I have to disagree.

System i will run AIX, i o/s and linux and is also power processor architecture.

System p will run i o/s but only on a single processor partition I believe.

In the latest releases of the system i and p series of machines they are now just branded as POWER and there is no difference between i and p systems as they were known. They will run aix, i o/s or linux or if partitioned a mixture of all is possible.

Hi,

I agree with my predecessor. But if the question is easily if you have a power cpu or not, do a lsconf | more and the output will show you clearly that you have a power processor (or more). And if you have AIX, you definitely do.

xseries is the intel line from ibm
