HACMP adding disk for mirroring

Hi all,

I have an HACMP (v5.3.0.0) cluster vg attached to ibm shark that need to be decommissioned. The data need to move to the HP EVA disk. The OS is on AIX 5200-10. The plan is to add a new disk from EVA & mirror the existing vg & break the mirror from Shark disk once the mirror finished.

I need some advice as I'm new to HACMP

Here is what I did so far.
1.) Installed the HP MPIO driver on both nodes
2.) presented a new (LUN) disk to both nodes
3.) on Node1 : ran cfgmgr to pick up the new disk
4.) on Node1 : set a pvid on the new disk
chdev -l hdiskX -a pv=yes
5.) on Node2 : ran cfgmgr to pick up the new disk & confirmed it picks up the correct pvid as on Node1 in step 4

Here is what I'm not sure about adding the disk.
6.) on Node1 : smit hacmp > system management (c-spoc) > hacmp physical volume management > add a disk to the cluster > select node1 & node2 >
This is what I' not sure about what disk type to pick for HP EVA8000 MPIP disk.

Here is I plan to do after successfully added the disk.
7.) on Node1 : smit hacmp > system management (c-spoc) > hacmp logical volume management > shared volume groups > set characteristics of a shared volume group > Add a volume to a shared volume group
8.) on Node1 : smit hacmp > system management (c-spoc) > hacmp logical volume management > shared volume groups > mirror a shared volume group

9.) do the failover to make sure it picks up the changes
10.) do the same thing as step 8 but this time perform the "unmirror a shared volume group" & remove the physical (Shark) disk from cspoc.

As you could assign a PVID to the disk on both nodes installation of the HP drivers was successfull and the LUN will be usable as hdisk. If the hdisk is visible from both nodes by its PVID you can select the disk from the CSPOC menu. CSPOC will offer only disks that are known at the cluster nodes by its PVID and that do not belong to any VG yet. It does not ask for "type".

I have no experience with HP EVA but in case this HP EVA is some sort of FC disk that is accessed via two or more paths you might want to set the hdisk's hcheck_interval (if applicable) to a value different from the default 0 bevor integrating it into the VG.

yes. The CSPOC panel will probably hang till the mirroring is finished.

Not necessary when using CSPOC.

yes.

Hi shockneck,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. After the disk are visible to both nodes. Where can I select the hdisk from the cspoc menu? I don't see such option. Don't I have to add the disk from the "HACMP Physical Volume Management" menu first?

writing from memory ... walk the panels in the following way:

Code:
# smitty hacmp
   Extended Configuration
Discover HACMP-related Information from Configured Nodes

this first step is probably not necessary. Then go to CSPOC

Code:
   System Management (CSPOC)
       HACMP Logical Volume Management
          Shared Volume Groups
Set Characteristics of a Shared Volume Group
Add a Volume to a Shared Volume Group

Choose RG / VG and you should end up in a panel where it offers you the unused disk devices. Mind that HACMP Logical Volume Management is the right track even if you use ECM VG.

I did the "Discover HACMP-related Information from Configured Nodes" & able to see the new disk (hdisk4) on both nodes.

When I try to "Add a Volume to a Shared Volume Group" I get the following error
1800-051 There are no items of this type.

Did I missed a steps?

This Error most likely indicates that either the hdisk was not known on every cluster node by its pvid before it was accessed by Cluster command or that you used the wrong LVM path from CSPOC.
If 1. applies: rmdev -dl the hdisks from both nodes, run cfgmgr, then chdev -dl <yourdisk> -a pv=yes on every node. Check that pvid is visible on every node. Then start over with Cluster commands.
If 2. applies: If you used Concurrenc LV Mangement use Logical LV Mangement or vice versa.

If else fails or does not apply pls post your steps exactly.

I removed the hdisk4 from both nodes
rmdev -dl hdisk4

I ran cfgmgr & chdev on both nodes
cfgmgr
chdev -l hdisk4 -a pv=yes
The pvid is definitely visible on both nodes

From the active node I did the following
# smit hacmp
Extended Configuration
Discover HACMP-related Information from Configured Nodes

System Management (CSPOC)
HACMP Logical Volume Management
Shared Volume Groups
Set Characteristics of a Shared Volume Group
Add a Volume to a Shared Volume Group
I choose the only RG/VG & got the following error
1800-051 There are no items of this type

The RG/VG we are using is a Non-concurrent VG.

I also try the following
ystem Management (CSPOC)
HACMP Concurrent Logical Volume Management
Concurrent Volume Groups
Set Characteristics of a Concurrent Volume Group
Add a Volume to a Concurrent Volume Group
I got the following message
cl_lsvg: no volume groups found
