Data TL Upgrade back-out

Hi

I updated the TL to a higher version, now facing problem with application.

How will I back-out? Any other option than restoring mksysb?

If your new filesets are in the "applied" instead of "committed" state you should be able to back out. Use smitty and look for an option like "reject applied filesets" or something similar.

That will only work if your system has the old versions still there. It would be a very good idea to open a support call with IBM for help with this, or at least google it thoroughly and get a procedure. But I know it is possible to roll back without a mksysb restore most of the time.

Oh dear, what did i say...
"Check the applications support the new TL/SP"
Forgot to say that you must take a mksysb before making any changes but you should know that!
You are very unlikely to be able to back out a TL without doing a mksysb restore.
If you don't have a mksysb then you will probably have to save what you can and then reinstall the system and start again.

next time:

the safest way to do this is alt_disk_install, still works fine even with 5.3. On 6.1 there's a new one, forgot the name...
