as far as the man pages of who,
it is supposed to give the listing of PID of the current shell of the users
when I just tried it is listing only the PID of the login program
the same has been tried reading the /var/adm/utmpx file but still the same output.
I am not sure or right to collect it as a bug ...contradiction between the man pages and the actual output. Due to resource availability I had tried only in solaris and not on any other distributions?
Could somebody please try and append the output obtained.

I have 2 systems. (1) RHEL5 and (2) winXP pro
from xpPRO putty i ssh into rhel5 : user root
from xpPRO i ftp into rhel5 : user abc123
when i run #uptime it only shows 1 user
when i do #ps -u abc123 : it shows vsftpd deamon PID

How to find the users who did not login into a UNIX box (thru ssh/ftp or any other way) for last 90 days?
I think of using "finger" or "last" command to findout each user's last login and then find number of days between today and that day. Is there any other better way or anyone prepared... (1 Reply)

NAME
utmpx, wtmpx - utmpx and wtmpx database entry formats
SYNOPSIS
#include <utmpx.h>
/var/adm/utmpx
/var/adm/wtmpx
DESCRIPTION
The utmpx and wtmpx files are extended database files that have superseded the obsolete utmp and wtmp database files.
The utmpx database contains user access and accounting information for commands such as who(1), write(1), and login(1). The wtmpx database
contains the history of user access and accounting information for the utmpx database.
USAGE
Applications should not access these databases directly, but should use the functions described on the getutxent(3C) manual page to inter-
act with the utmpx and wtmpx databases to ensure that they are maintained consistently.
FILES
/var/adm/utmpx user access and adminstration information
/var/adm/wtmpx history of user access and adminstrative information
