ok i installed DEBIAN, and i cant get online.. so suppp. i ahve cable and it uses DHCP.
so i ahd red hat :eek: and i jsut type modprobe 8139too, dhcpcd eth0 and... i think thats it.. im pretty sure thats it. but NOW. i install DEBIAN type out my modprobe it works yah yah. then i type out 'dhcpcd... (1 Reply)

It says that these files should be written to a floppy: Studenten Net Twente - Index of /debian/dists/etch/main/installer-i386/current/images/floppy/
How would all of those fit onto a floppy? Could I write a CD instead? (8 Replies)

I'm trying to install Debian to a partition on my hard drive. I have my computer booted into Knoppix from a CD and I'm using it to download the necessary files to create an install disk that I can boot from (on a USB memory stick).

Hello,
I need to upgrade my Debian system 7.8 to 8.5 but by default via apt-get It moves to 8.6 version(latest stable version). I'm new to Debian so didn't figure out the solution.

NAME
ftprestart - restart previously shutdown FTP Servers
SYNOPSIS
ftprestart [-V]
DESCRIPTION
Use the ftprestart command to restart an FTP Server previously shut down by means of ftpshut(1M). The ftprestart command reads the shutdown
capability from the ftpaccess(4) file to determine the path of the shutdown message files. It then reenables the FTP Server by removing any
shutdown message files in the anonymous and virtual FTP Server area, as well as the system wide shutdown message file.
OPTIONS
The ftprestart command supports the following options:
-V Display program copyright and version information, then terminate.
EXAMPLES
Example 1: Sample Output from ftprestart
The following example shows sample output from the ftprestart command:
example% ftprestart
ftprestart: /export/home/ftp/etc/ftpd/shutdown.msg removed.
ftprestart: /export/home/virtual1/etc/ftpd/shutdown.msg removed.
ftprestart: /etc/ftpd/shutdown.msg removed.
