Instead of writing to the output of dd to another tape, write it to disk, omitting bad blocks.

The reason is that if this is a text file, omitting a single block could turn several lines in the new file into meaningless garbage.

Sometimes cleaning or replacing the tape drive head will solve the problem of unreadable tape blocks.
