I am assuming your process is running in a shell on the Unix side.
If send send the command:
It will return the status of the previous command - in this case the application. 0 = okay, 1 or any other non-zero number means there was a problem or a warning.
status in Unix means the exit code from a process. If you mean something else by status please explain.

I have some AIX 4.3 machines which have disabled root telnet access.
When you run su - once logged on the machine requests a password and if one is supplied correctly it asks for another users password.
How do I configure this?

Somewhat long story:
I have a simple Perl CGI script that uses Expect to Telnet to a device and grab some data, and then spits it back to Perl for display on the Webpage.
