Trying to represent a number with thousands separator in AWK:
echo 1 12 123 1234 12345 123456 1234567 | awk --re-interval '{print gensub(/(])(]{3})/,"\\1,\\2","g")}'
1 12 123 1,234 1,2345 1,23456 1,234567

I have tried to use ">" as record separator, but it doesn't work.
I have tried this:

output:
