generally u have the cc compiler in the /usr/bin. you can also locate the path using the command type or whence. sometimes the cc compiler may also be onvoked using gcc, c++ (this is for cplus cplus)
and if none of this gives you a confirmative solution, do this
find / -name "*cc" 2>/dev/null
then take a tea break, and when you are back, you will surely have a result by then
a positive or negative, but an almost sure answer to your question.
if it is negative then ask your unix distributor where you should get the c compiler from.

I know how to read a return code after executing a single command.
"echo $?". But I do not know how to sum the return code for a group of commands.
If I string 3 commands together and I do an echo $? all I get is the retunr code for the last command. Example below:

Cython (http://cython.org) is a compiler for code written in the Cython language. Cython is based on Pyrex by Greg Ewing.
OPTIONS
-V, --version
Display version number of cython compiler
-l, --create-listing
Write error messages to a listing file
-I, --include-dir <directory>
Search for include files in named directory (multiple include directories are allowed).
-o, --output-file <filename>
Specify name of generated C file
-t, --timestamps
Only compile newer source files
-f, --force
Compile all source files (overrides implied -t)
-q, --quiet
Don't print module names in recursive mode
