-d make dirs
-m preserve modification time
-v verbose

from the man page:
Code:
       ....cpio copies files
       into or out of a cpio or tar archive, which is a  file  that  contains
       other  files  plus  information  about  them, such as their file name,
       owner, timestamps, and access permissions.  The archive can be another
       file  on the disk, a magnetic tape, or a pipe.

Could someone please tell me if there is a command similar to head or tail that can be used on directories.        Values needed by the c_mode field of the cpio archive format are described as follows:

       C_IRUSR           Read by owner
