if you can ping a host which IP address you know, try to edit the "/etc/resolv.conf" file, it should contain a line like: "nameserver 192.168.0.1"

We have a website running on a local centos 5.4 surfer, static IP.
The domain.com uses no-ip.com to take care of the DNS, it forwards all to my server.
My router receives the port 80 call, routes it to my server and the world can see domain.com perfectly fine.

is an auxiliary process which provides DNS forwarding service for NIS hosts requests. The process is started by (NIS server) when invoked
with the option. It requires the file to be set up for communication with a DNS nameserver. The utility can be used to verify communica-
