Hi,
I want to list filenames instead of lines when i search in compresed files for a string.
#gzcat *.gz | grep -l 12345
gives me:
<stdin>

I have a program that takes a file in which I use a sed to remove some data that is not needed. If all of the data is removed. I want to grep for that in the file and print that there is no data left in the file. When I use sed, I replace a word with nothing but it still seems to leave a return... (5 Replies)
I'm trying to remove all of the empty lines at the end of a Tab delimited file. They have no data just tabs.

Hi - I have req to join broken lines and remove empty lines but should NOT be in one line. It has to be as is line by line. The challenge here is there is no end of line/start of line char.

zgrep - search possibly compressed files for a regular expression
SYNOPSIS
zgrep [ grep_options ] [ -e ] pattern filename...
DESCRIPTION
Zgrep invokes grep on compressed or gzipped files. These grep options will cause zgrep to terminate with an error code:
(-[drRzZ]|--di*|--exc*|--inc*|--rec*|--nu*). All other options specified are passed directly to grep. If no file is specified, then the
standard input is decompressed if necessary and fed to grep. Otherwise the given files are uncompressed if necessary and fed to grep.
If the GREP environment variable is set, zgrep uses it as the grep program to be invoked.
EXIT CODE
2 - An option that is not supported was specified.
