In httpd.conf I believe that if you set DocumentRoot to www.example.org/www/pub and then set DirectoryIndex to what documents you will allow for the default such as index.html, index.php, index.htm, etc that should take care of the problem. Of course if you have documents in sub directories that you want to display then those sub directories will be displayed. You could then use cbkihong's solution.
