Without considering the post processing,
sounds like you would need a pipe, message queue or a shared memory segment to allow your processes to communicate.
You would have to consider the merits of each against your own requirement, but personally I would go for a message queue.
As to how this would fit into with your post processing, I cannot comment, since you have not elaborated.

After a reboot of the server we have found that changing password takes a long time. if type in passwd "username" you can type in the 1st instance of the password , press enter , then it will wait for about 3 minutes before bringing up the confirm password line typing it in... NAME
mq_unlink - unlink a message queue
SYNOPSIS
DESCRIPTION
The system call disassociates the queue name, from a message queue specified by the argument, name. After a successful call to attempts to
open a message queue with the same name will fail, if the flag is not set in oflags.
If there are no processes with existing open descriptors for the message queue, the queue is destroyed. If one or more processes have the
message queue open, the removal of the queue is postponed until all descriptors for the queue have been closed.
To use this function, link in the realtime library by specifying on the compiler or linker command line.
