Is the remote system doing a push or are you doing a pull of the files. If the remote system is doind a push of the files onto your system, then you may want to include the date and time of the file built into the name of the file and when it comes over to your local machine there will be a visual indication of the date and time when the file was last created/modified in the remote system.
It may be possible to do the same if you are doing a pull from the remote system too.

i dont have remote m/c user credential. i only know remote m/c ip address. and i am able to ping that remote m/c.
In windows we use: "net time \\computername" to get the remote m/c time.
so how can i get remote m/c time in unix m/c? (means a unix command)

NAME
smd-pull - syncs the local mail dir letting the remote one untouched
SYNOPSIS
smd-pull [-d|--dry-run] [-v|--verbose] [-s|--show-tags] [-t|--template-only]
[-n|--no-delete] [endpoint]
DESCRIPTION
smd-pull performs in the local maildir all the changes that were performed on remote one.
No changes are made on the remote maildir. Use smd-push(1) for that.
Refer to smd-config(5) for the configuration file format.
OPTIONS
-v --verbose
Verbose output
-s --show-tags
Machine readable output
-d --dry-run
Do not perform any action for real
-n --no-delete
Do not propagate deletions
-t --template-only
Just create a template configuration file if none
endpoint
Is the suffix for the name of the configuration file to use. If it is omitted, the configuration file ~/.smd/config.default is used.
