Use a good shell (ksh, bash) and then use the shell's built-in features to do this lightning-fast...

Code:
$ FILENAME="ABC_totoalerte.txt"
$ FILENAME=${FILENAME##*_}
$ echo $FILENAME
totoalerte.txt

I am trying to write a script that prompts users for date and time, then process the gzip file into awk. During the ksh part of the script another file is created and needs to be processed with a different set of pattern matches then I need to combine the two in the end. I'm stuck at the part...        Read documentation in Info format.

OPTIONS

       -k, --apropos=STRING
	      look up STRING in all indices of all manuals.

       -d, --directory=DIR
	      add DIR to INFOPATH.

       --dribble=FILENAME
	      remember user keystrokes in FILENAME.

       -f, --file=FILENAME
	      specify Info file to visit.

       -h, --help
	      display this help and exit.

       --index-search=STRING
	      go to node pointed by index entry STRING.

       -n, --node=NODENAME
