here is kind of what I am working on, but I know it is incorrect somehow

diff (compare oldpage1.html with newpage2.html) append to notes.txt

here is the code sort of

diff oldpage1.html newpage2.html >> notes.txt

I haven't tried the >> yet because I don't know if it will erase/disappear everything or not but this looks like the closest to working code. Thank you again for helping.

Simulate SVN diff using plain diff

Hi, svn diff does not work very well with 2 local folders, so I am trying to do this diff using diff locally. since there's a bunch of meta files in an svn directory, I want to do a diff that excludes everything EXCEPT *.java files. there seems to be only an --exclude option, so I'm not sure... NAME

       bzcmp, bzdiff - compare bzip2 compressed files

SYNOPSIS

       bzcmp [ cmp_options ] file1 [ file2 ]
       bzdiff [ diff_options ] file1 [ file2 ]

DESCRIPTION

       Bzcmp  and  bzdiff  are used to invoke the cmp or the diff program on bzip2 compressed files.  All options specified are passed directly to
       cmp or diff.  If only 1 file is specified, then the files compared are file1 and an uncompressed file1.bz2.  If two  files  are	specified,
       then they are uncompressed if necessary and fed to cmp or diff.	The exit status from cmp or diff is preserved.
