One of the most common issues that can lead to long login delays is a mismatch in the speed/duplex settings between a Solaris host and a switch/router. Take a look at the following
thread.
What mechanism are you using to connect to the system? SSH? If so, you can start another instance on another port in debug mode. It could be an PAM configuration problem causing your delay.
I'd also check to see if you have any obvious bottlenecks on the system. What does 'prstat -a', 'iostat 5 5', 'vmstat 5 5' show?

install-solaris invokes the Solaris Install program. Depending on graphical capability and available memory at the time of invocation,
install-solaris invokes either a text-based installer or a graphical installer.
The following minimum requirements for physical memory dictate which features are available during installation:
For SPARC machines:
128 MB
Minimum physical memory for all installation types
