weird stuff

I coudln't think of another topic to post this under as the OS on the system is XP pro.

Ok here is the go.

I'm upgrdaing a mates computer. A AMD 1200Mhz and well it wouldn't boot from the CD to do a fresh install (By upgrade I mean OS with complete new install). So I opened up the box and here was the config it had.

IDE1: Master HDD & Secondary HDD
IDE2: CD-ROM & CD-RW

so I changed this config so I could boot to the following.

IDE1: Master HDD & CD-ROM
IDE2: CD-RW & Second HDD

Ok fair enough you think. Yeah so did I. Then I changed the BOIS (Nearly said OBP out of habit Smilie ) to make the boot order as follows

FDD --> CD-ROM --> HDD --> NIC

Yeah ok that was all I changed NOTHING ELSE!!! I swear! Then there was a heap of dust in the machine so I blew a little of it out (Blowing the dust out with my mouth NOT a compressor or something, well not yet anyway!) I was just doing a little clean! Then I cleaned a little dust out of the bottom of the box!

I swear I did not touch and jumpers or anything like that! Everything apart from what I changed was the same (changes as said above) Then I tested booting form the CD. YAY! Works fine. Then I had the wrong version CD in it Smilie

Ok now the right Cd is in the CD-ROM and boots.

Now for the strange stuff. the machine is no longer a AMD 1200Mhz it's now a AMD 1380 Mhz Smilie Not to complain as now it's a little faster Smilie So I completed the install thinking it may just be something wrong. Nope Windows after the install detected the same thing.

What the? How the? When the?

I can't think of why this happened, it's got me stumped. I told my old lady what happened later that night. Her reply was, "You knew you were good, but I bet you didn't know you were that good Smilie "

Anyone got any idea's what the hell went on? I'm thinking I could become rich by just touching a system I upgrade it Smilie

Thanks in advanced for your idea's.

Oh yeah and I swear I changed nothing apart from what I in this post!

NAME
amdtemp -- AMD CPU on-die digital thermal sensor SYNOPSIS
amdtemp* at pchb? DESCRIPTION
The amdtemp driver provides support for the on-die digital thermal sensor present on AMD K8, AMD Barcelona, AMD Phenom, AMD Griffin, and AMD Fusion CPUs. These sensors were officially introduced in AMD K8 Revision F processors, and provide 0.5 degC accuracy. Precision was improved in Revision G chips, which provide two more bits for 0.25 degC steppings. Each core has two temperature sensors, and there are up to two cores per CPU socket. AMD Barcelona, AMD Phenom, AMD Griffin, and AMD Fusion provide 0.125 degC accuracy and provide one temperature sensor for each CPU socket. The amdtemp driver reports temperatures through the envsys(4) API. Sensor Units Typical Use CPUN sensor0 uK cpuN temperature SEE ALSO
envsys(4), envstat(8), powerd(8) HISTORY
The amdtemp driver first appeared in OpenBSD 4.4 named ``kate''. It was then ported to NetBSD 5.0. The driver has been renamed with support for newer AMD CPUs. AUTHORS
The amdtemp driver was written by Constantine A. Murenin <cnst@openbsd.org> whilst at the University of Waterloo. It was adapted to NetBSD by Christoph Egger. BSD
