Exactly what happens when you try to add another printer?
On sunsolve one bug report starts off...

The customer has 572 printers defined on one sparc10 @2.5 running jetadmin. All of their 2.3 and 2.4 client systems all run lpstat fine. The 2.5.1 systems run lpstat very slow.

And was shocked that you have more than 50. But it seems that you're nowhere near setting a record.

i am looking for a way to migrate a Tru64 print configuration (/etc/printcap) to Solaris 10 printers (/etc/printers.conf)....
the costumer has about 180 printers configured, so i don't really want to do that by hand ;)
to you know a tool or a script, that could do that job for me?

what's the differance bitween local printer queue and remote printer queue and why for adding a remote queue i need to restart my spooler while for a local queue i dont...

Hi all
I have a really strange situation. This morning I ran lpstat -p and it didn't return any results. I ran lpstat -t and the scheduler is running.
How strange, it seems all the printers have disappeared from my server.

lpstat - printer status information
Syntax
lpstat [ options ]
Description
The utility prints the status of the system printers.
Without any options, prints the status of print requests made to the default printer.
This command exists for X/OPEN compatibility.
Options
Some of the options can be followed by a list of arguments. The arguments must be specified as follows:
lpstat -uuser1,user2,user3
List items can be separated by spaces, but the list must be enclosed in quotes. If you do not include any arguments, all the information
relevant to the option is printed.
The valid options for are:
-a (R)[ printer1, printer2, ... (R)]
Print whether or not printers are accepting print requests.
-d Print the name of the default system printer.
-o (R)[ printer1, printer2, ... (R)]
Print the status of print requests.
-p (R)[ printer1, printer2, ... (R)]
Print the status of printers.
-r Print the status of the line printer daemon,
-s Print a status summary, including the status of the line printer daemon and the default system printer.
-t Print all status information.
-u (R)[ user1, user2, ... (R)]
Print the status of users' print requests.
