I don't know of any 6 month UNIX courses. However, if you go to Sun's site there is a link for training/certification on the front page. There are 3 sysadmin courses:
1) solais sysadmin
2) solaris network admin
3) solaris security admin
I'm pretty sure there are 2 available classes for each of these 3 certification tracks.
I've taken both of the classes for #1 for Solaris 7 back in ~2000 and I found the courses to be pretty good...with lots of hands on exercises. They are expensive though, so hopefully your boss is paying for them.
If you take these courses, and do self-study for the certs, you can probably do it in 6 mos. and have 3 certifications in your hand too.
Good luck,
Dave
