Thank you for the sample code, I was discussing pipes with one of my colleagues and it is seems that when a read is being performed on a pipe the OS performs a blocking operation or a blocking operation takes place and because of this, all the processes can be coordinated amongst themselves to perform the tasks that were previously outlined. Can someone shed some light on this if possible.

Ok...so I know I *should* be able to control a process's stdin and stdout from the parent by creating pipes and then dup'ing them in the child. setsid - run a program in a new session
SYNOPSIS
setsid [options] program [arguments]
DESCRIPTION
setsid runs a program in a new session. The command calls fork(2) if already a process group leader. Otherwise, it executes a program in
the current process.
OPTIONS
-c, --ctty
Set the controlling terminal to the current one.
-w, --wait
Wait for the execution of the program to end, and return the exit value of this program as the return value of setsid.
-V, --version
Display version information and exit.
-h, --help
Display help text and exit.
